Today I found that my Glaive Prime was doing practically no direct damage to me even if I hit myself with a charged throw (double damage of normal throws). If the self damage of explosives in this game was anything close to reasonable, there would have been other things we could have used besides Tonkor.Д«ut anyway, here's something happening to me with thrown weapons specifically. There was no middle ground between those extremes. Before the Tonkor nerf, it was either 'use Tonkor and have fun with an explosive weapon' or 'use anything else and kill yourself every time you fire'. They even nerfed the Tonkor, an example of DE knowing why something is being used, but not getting why we're using it in a broader context. The self-damage is bonkers, absolutely ridiculous, and DE has ignored the horrible state of self damage for years. There are no frames other than Rhino, Wukong, Chroma, and Inaros that may possibly not oneshot themselves with a normal build on every self-damage weapon we have right now. The amount of self-damage our weapons do to us is ludicrous, many many times the effective HP of our frames. In my opinion, the problem with thrown melee is a problem with self damage across the entire game. I love the punch through and what not, but the explosion part can just go. In practice, one would swear that DE designed these as troll weapons just to kill the players themselves. So why is this a thing? The explosion itself also seems to be only detrimental to the player as the explosion radius is only big enough to ether hit the one target or if they're pretty much standing in each other, maybe two targets. The worst part about it is that the stats of the melee vs thrown version very distinctly make it known that it's supposed to be pretty much thrown exclusively in most cases. NOT because I threw a boomerang which bounced off my target and came back into my face before promptly exploding. That way I could just blame myself because I forgot to change it back to barrage mode after firing off a few cannon balls. If I wanted to kill myself, I'd bring the Zarr.

Why in the god damn hell is self damage even a thing with thrown melee in the first place? I don't want to have to worry about killing myself every time I toss the damn thing. If I accidentally toss it while spamming the key, I once again take god damn self damage because it triggered the explosion right in my face. Also, in the new melee + pistol mode, if you throw the weapon and hit the melee key again, it will detonate and come back.

If you're in a tight hallway and it ricochets back at you, you will most likely take a huge amount of damage, simply because the weapon decided to bounce near your feet. Tossing the weapon will cause an explosion on the last hit. Glaive especially has been a lot of fun to use, but there's still one thing that has bugged me. The buffs and adjustments have finally gotten me to pick them up again. I love to see that DE is showing some love for thrown weapons finally.
